Is there any method of quick, effective and painless elimination of limb varicose veins?
Is there any minimally invasive method of venous insufficiency treatment which allows for immediate return to normal activities without a need to wear compression stockings, which is not accompanied by bruising and risk of skin discolouration in the summer season?

Below you will find answers to these questions.

To meet all expectations of our clients, the Clinic of Phlebology-NASMED was the first in Poland to introduce minimally invasive ‘superglue’ treatment of lower limbs varicose veins, accessed transdermally, with the usage of American method – VenaSeal.

VenaSeal (Latin: vena – vein, Eng. to seal – glue) is a novel intravascular procedure which was launched by the American medical device company Sapheon Inc. It is an excellent method of lower limb varicose veins treatment which has a number of benefits. In many cases, it may replace classic surgical method of vein widening elimination. Procedure is of rather short duration (30-40 minutes). It is performed in out-patient settings under high-resolution ultrasound guidance.

What is important is that this intravascular ‘superglue’ treatment does not require tumescent anaesthesia which is routinely applied in other endovascular procedures, especially in thermal procedures such as endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), radiofrequency ablation (EVRF) or steam ablation for varicose veins (SVS). Tumescent anaesthesia requires multifocal injecting of a strongly diluted solution alleviating pain (lidocaine) into cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues along the varicose veins.
Procedure of injecting medical glue into a varicose vein (completely painless) is performed gradually with the usage of calibrated gun-type dispenser. It allows for controlled and entire occlusion of affected vein. Having used a special set of catheters by Sapheon, medical glue is administered to the vein lumen selectively and precisely.

Below see a list of the most important benefits of ‘superglue’ treatment of lower limb varicose veins using VenaSeal method, which are distinct compared to other methods of treatment:
– it is a practically painless procedure as skin tissues are not exposed to heat and there is no need for tumescent anaesthesia which usually causes discomfort
– it is a procedure of high effectiveness *, even in case of large varicose veins (considerable predominance over echosclerotherapy, EVRF, SVS and old laser-based systems)
– patient may quickly return to work and normal activities
– there is no need to wear compression stockings in the post-procedure period (it refers to the majority of varicose veins closed)
– there is a minimal risk of post-procedure skin discolouration (predominance over EVRF, old laser-based systems and sclerotherapy)
– there is a minimal risk of nerve branches damage accompanying venous trunks of superficial venous system (it is a method of choice for large varicose veins of the trunk of the short saphenous vein)
* entire occlusion of venous trunks using ‘superglue’ treatment (VenaSeal method) in 1 and 1.5-year observation is to more than 90%!

Below see exemplary effects visible following the VenaSeal procedure (patient may go home without a need to wear compression garment):venaseal-efekt

Due to its specific character (low risk of extrasavation, skin discolouration, no need for post-procedure compression), VenaSeal method may be applied even in the summer season. It is a method of choice in case of patients with severe arterial insufficiency (compression therapy is often a contraindication for such patients), persons who are sensitive to materials used to produce compression devices as well as those with high BMI parameters (Body Mass Index) for whom selection of post-procedure stockings may be problematic.
