Comprehensive therapy of chronic venous insufficiency cannot be complete without specialised surgical consultation. Minimally invasive procedures, although successful in most cases of superficial veins changes, can occasionally fail.
In situations when insufficient veins became excessively distended or when there are other objective contraindications to performing a minimally invasive procedure like sclerotherapy or laser ablation, we then incorporate a surgical treatment.
Such cotraindications are:

– serious systemic diseases
– local or general infections

– immobility (disability, beddridden states, plaster)
However, the classical surgeries are increasingly replaced with newest intravascular methods, like ‘superglue’ Venaseal treatment. It should be remembered that in case of larger varicose veins a qualification to surgery as well as discussing all possible aspects of the procedure is obligatory.
