Narrow Band Imaging (NBI)
Narrow Band Imaging allows for improved visibility of the hidden structure of mucosa surface as well as the superficial capillaries. NBI uses the difference in peak light absorbtion and reflection of blood and the tissues surrounding blood vessels, causing them to contrast with the neighbouring mucosa, which it turn facilitates capllary imaging. This contrast may also enhance the visibility of the structure. NBI proves to be even more effective when combined with HDTV. High-resolution screen allows for improved imaging of the observed areas. This function plays an essential role in detection and early diagnostics of minor or hardly visible changes. Detecting changes, e.g. cancerous cells, in the early stage of development contributes to better prognosis for the patient.
Imaging in the standard of high-definition progressive scan format operating at 1080p (HDTV 1080p)
As the only solution on the market, the innovative HDTV 1080p offers the quality of imaging comprable to analogue film, as well as comfort and flexibility of conventional video. (Until now the highest standard of imaging were SXGA and the interlaced video – HDTV 1080i.) Having 1080 horizontal lines of image resolution, as compared to 480 lines in NTSC and 576 in PAL, HDTV provides image quality twice as good as conventional television. Higher pixel density creates a smooth, bright image, which is characterized by its incredible detail resolution and true-to-life colours. In lower resolutions the image does not show much degradation. High quality and faithfulness of the imaging make HDTV system perfect for operations demanding supreme precision, as well as for the accurate assessment of the mucosa.
Innoflex
The innovative variable stiffness insertion tube of the colonoscope enables quicker and easier examination due to its ability to adjust to the individual intestinal structure of each patient. This function contributes to significant shortening of the examination time and reduces pain. Innoflex is available exclusively in Olympus endoscopes.
Close Focus
It is a yet another type of imaging techniques. It enables imaging from a very close distance. It will prove useful in areas where the endocope has to reach closely, due to lack of space or the need to zoom in to assess the structure and categorize the change.
Structure enhanement function
Structure Enhancement is achieved due to electronic enhancement of the image. This funtion enables improved visualisation of tiny structures of mucosa, which contruibutes to more accurate and reliable diagnosis. Combination of HDTV high resolution imaging and narrow band imaging clearly raise the standard of diagnostics and facilitate greater precision in e.g. typology of lesions suggested by Kudo, MD, comprising assessment of the mucosa structure schemes, which can indicate neoplastic lesions – the so-called ‘pit patterns’. Both these functions, combined with operator’s knowledge, increase patient’s prognosis and support early diagnostics and prevention of gastrointestinal tract diseases.
