Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with diseases of the peripheral and central nervous system. The most common diseases of the nervous system are:

– central nervous system infections (eg. meningitis, encephalitis), – vascular diseases (eg. intracerebral haemorrhage, cerebral infarction, Transient Ischemic Attack- TIA), – disorders affecting the cerebrospinal fluid (eg. hydrocephalus), – tumours (eg. meningiomas, gliomas), – traumas of the nervous system (eg. neuropathic pain, radiation injury), – perinatal traumas and developmental disorders (eg. infantile cerebral palsy), – genetic diseases (eg. Wilson disease), – mitochondrial diseases (eg. Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy), – neuro-dermal disorders (eg. Recklinghausen disease), – peripheral neuropathies (eg. paralysis of radial nerve), – dementia disorders (eg. Alzheimer’s disease), – hereditary ataxia (eg. Friedreich disease)
